Try these Ideas:

Scent your Holiday cards by applying a few drops of oil to a cotton ball and storing with the cards in a large plastic bag. Just be sure to keep the oil from touching the cards.

Add a few drops of oil to a bowl of either hot or cold water, absorb the oil with a hand towel and wring out, use as a hot or cold compress.

Add a few drops of oil to a hot bowl of water and with your head above the bowl, cover with a towel to give yourself a steam treatment.

Add a few drops of Pine Essential Oil to a spray bottle of water and freshen your Christmas tree (live or fake!) with a few spritzes.

Add a few drops of oil to a boiling pot of water to disperse the smell in your home.

Add a few drops of oil to your bath water, usually 5-8 drops will do.

Add a few drops of oil to a tissue or handkerchief and inhale gently.

Add 6 drops oil to 1 oz Sweet Almond Oil to create a massage or therapeutic oil.

Add 10-20 drops to a Nebulizer or other diffuser to disburse the oils throughout a room. Nebulizer diffusers are one of the most efficient and effective ways to disburse EO’s.

Make your own mouthwash: 4 oz Vegetable Glycerin/Distilled Water mixture (1T-50% Glycerin to sweeten or preserve) 5-10 drops Essential Oils such as Spearmint, Peppermint, Clove (for pain), Lemon, Orange, Thyme, Myrrh (for preserving and inflammation of gums), Tea Tree, Chamomile, or Rosemary.

Make a salve or ointment: combine desired Essential Oils in a carrier oil and gently warm on stove. Add beeswax to thicken. Or add desired herbs in a carrier oil, slowly simmer for an hour or more, strain, then add beeswax to thicken to desired consistency. OR use a prepared Natures Jelly (aka: Un- Petroleum Jelly) add your EO’s and mix or warm the Jelly on stove, add herbs and steep for 20 minutes or more. Strain herbs and let jelly cool back down to a thick consistency.

Make your own perfume-

Formulate by adding the essential oils to a carrier of Jojoba Oil, perfumer’s alcohol or the highest proof vodka you can find. In a dark container add about 10 tsp of carrier and 1 tsp distilled water (except with the Jojoba carrier), then slowly add approximately 50 drops of your essential or fragrance oil combinations. You’ll want to roll the bottle to blend the mixture once a day for approximately 7 days while storing in a dark place… and voila you have created your own perfume. Although there really are no rules, including oils from the different notes is advisable. Oils are either a Top, Middle, or Base note (much like music). The Top note being the first that you smell and dissipates the quickest, the Middle being the liaison between the Top and Base notes, and finally the Base note that anchors the scent and is the longest lasting. See each oil description on this site to determine if it’s a Top, Middle, or base note.

Learn to use EO’s in your everyday life for their therapeutic qualities-

Plant’s volatile essential oils serve several purposes: to attract insects for pollination and reproduction; to deter for defense by repelling it’s predators, even through it’s roots, a plant can deter other plant growth around it’s territory; and finally to protect it against fungus, mold, bacteria and other disease. The oils can be extracted from the plants fruit, leaves, flowers, stems, roots, and berries, using several methods, steam extraction being the most common. Humans and animals depend on plants. Some animals will instinctively seek to eat certain plants when they have an upset stomach, are ill, are waking from hibernation, or bitten by other animals. The therapeutic value of essential oils is attributed to the natural chemical occurrence in plant life. Plants are “chemical factories” drawing it’s synergies from the sun, soil and air. Each essential oil is therefore very unique in it’s blueprint depending heavily upon the species of plant and conditions in which it grows. Therapeutic grade essential oils are therefore sourced for these consistent qualities and growing conditions from all over the world. Use of essential oils goes back, deep into history. The Japanese, the French, Indians and many other cultures use essential oils regularly. In France, an Aromatherapist must be a doctor; essential oils are prescribed and paid for by insurance companies. In Japan, aromatherapy is commonly used in the workplace decreasing illness, while increasing production, efficiencies, and workplace satisfaction. Using plants for their medicinal purposes is a rich part of Indian culture. Aromatherapy is most effective in treating infectious illness and is also quite effective for nervous, psyche and hormonal issues. However, aromatherapy is not a be all or end all. Using essential oils in your everyday life can be very rewarding, seek first to educate yourself, always consult your physician when prudent, be safe and enjoy!
